Dear wUrld-Builders,
“Make your story a container for other people’s stories.” That’s me quoting myself with my go to advice to any Hollywood screenwriter to help them prepare for the future of film & TV. Now, after intense months of post production (and staying up for 22 hours straight this past Sunday to Monday) I can finally show you how I’ve applied that sentiment.
In the spirit of continuing to build my tech media company in public (#buildinpublic), I’m sharing a major milestone with you: the biggest asset for ReelwUrld’s first show made by a global community on our cinematic social network.
The asset is a video that answers the question "where's the show?" asked to me by both Techstars Rising Stars and Pharrell's Black Ambition Prize when ReelwUrld was a finalist in each for a $1M investment last year. What they were really asking was "where's the end product of ReelwUrld's system as a final movie or show made with a community?"
The video, called JFH: The Story So Far..., summarizes the narrative of ReelwUrld’s first show produced through our app by showing footage from people across the world that tells a cohesive and epic story with hundreds of completely original characters created by our users.
This video summary is key for the next steps of our company for both B2B and B2C, and here's why:
B2B
It demonstrates that we've turned an IP (JFH is based on a comic series) into an IP-generating machine and can repeat this process for any franchise IP.
Think Harry Potter or Star Wars fans having a place to create their own characters and be part of a bigger story
This video as an end-product is helpful for licensing our tech to studios and brands.
It highlights key fandom demographics that are participating on our app which allows for refined targeting.
Video will be used to secure more partnerships that offer value to our user base.
B2C
Informs our audience of the scope of the stories that can be told on our app (i.e. our app is a cinematic universe).
Invites users to contribute their character and story wherever they would like within the show's narrative timeline.
Highlights the value of our live community events at Comic Cons and film festivals where the larger group scenes were created while using our app.
Now, take all of the business strategy jargon and cool action video editing I just shared and put it aside for a moment.
ReelwUrld is about saving the world by helping people transform themselves through story and character development.
